Richard (Dick) and Kathy (Gould) Brake are celebrating their 60th anniversary today. The couple was married at Trinity Lutheran Church on July 16, 1959 by the Rev. E.J. Goedeking. He is retired from Honda and she is retired from Memorial Hospital. They have four sons, Bob, David (Deb), Bryan (Beth) and Doug (Sonya); eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. About 17,000 Marysville residents were without power Monday after a Dayton Power and Light (DP&L) equipment failure. Mary Ann Kabel, DP&L Director of Corporate Communications, said that about 9:30 a.m., Monday, officials learned that much of Marysville was without power. She said the system had shut itself down as a safety precaution. Kabel said that when the system detects something not working correctly, it shuts down and notifies the company. The DP&L spokesperson said crews went to the area and found, “an equipment failure underground on one of our underground switches.” She said that despite reports, at no point were…

Nina Mae Boggs Wood, 84, of Marysville and formerly of Milford Center, died peacefully Saturday evening, July 13, 2019, at Bluebird Retirement Community. A 1953 graduate of Union Local High School, she was retired from Laidlaw Transportation serving the Harold Lewis School for many years. A pair of apartments made of shipping containers is beginning to take shape. The second story has been added to the side-by-side townhouse-style apartments at 714 and 716 Collins Ave. Officials have said they will use 11 shipping containers to construct the two-bedroom, two-bath, apartments. United Way of Union County (UWUC) has kicked off its annual “Learn United” Stuff the Bus School Supply Drive. “Preparation is a key to success,” said Corinne Bix, UWUC campaign director. “We want every student in Union County and Plain City to feel prepared with the necessary supplies when they start back to school next month.” UWUC is asking the public to help students in need get those necessary supplies. The Ohio Development Services Agency and Bridges Community Action Partnership will help income-eligible Ohioans stay cool during the hot summer months. The Home Energy Assistance Summer Crisis Program provides eligible Ohioans assistance paying an electric bill or assistance paying for central air conditioning repairs. The program runs until Aug. 31, 2019. The Summer Crisis Program assists low-income households with an older household member (60 years or older), or households that can provide physician documentation that cooling assistance is needed for a household member’s health.
