A Lima man could be facing prison after he was stopped for racing on U.S. 33, then allegedly fled from police. Johnathan Edwa Gonzalez, 20, of Lima is charged with one count of failure to comply with an order or signal of a police officer. According to court documents, on June 22, law enforcement officials received a complaint about several vehicles driving recklessly on U.S. 33. After officially “reconsidering,” Marysville City Council has approved a raise for itself. Last week council heard a second reading of an ordinance to set compensation for council members at $7,920, beginning in 2020. At the time, council also amended the ordinance to include a section indicating it would review an additional 2% increase in 2021. The city charter dictates that any raise must be approved at least 30 days before the filing deadline for a council election. That filing deadline is Aug. 7. Disgruntled after a dental exam, a prisoner’s boast has led to additional charges for the woman. The Union County Grand Jury has indicted Sabrina Angus, 39, an inmate at the Ohio Reformatory for Women. Angus is charged with two counts of tampering with records, both felonies of the third degree. Union County Assistant Prosecutor Rick Rodger said Angus went for a dental exam while in prison. Marysville City Council is poised to increase the salary for its members. At Monday night’s meeting, council heard a second reading of an ordinance to set compensation for council members. The legislation sets council salary at $7,920, beginning in 2020. The legislation also said council would look at an additional 2% increase in 2021 that would set council salary at $8,078.40 Currently, Marysville City Council members make $7,200 per year. To receive full credit for the year of service, the Ohio Public Service Retirement System requires a minimum salary of $660 per month or $7,920 annually. At a work session…

A babysitter has been sentenced to prison for her role in the death of an infant. As part of a tearful hearing Tuesday, Hayley Breann Rausch was sentenced to 30 months in prison. In February, Rausch, 25, of 20820 Wolford Maskill Road, pleaded guilty to one count of endangering children. In exchange, prosecutors agreed to dismiss a reckless homicide charge. On Jan. 24, 2017, Rausch was babysitting eight-week old Taylor Weber. At about 11:30 a.m., she went to check on Weber and realized the baby wasn’t breathing. Rausch called 911 and performed CPR. The Jonathan Alder School Board got its first look Tuesday at state testing results. At Tuesday night’s meeting, Assistant Superintendent Dr. Misty Swanger presented preliminary state assessment results. Districts around the state received the preliminary results earlier this month. Swanger reminded board members the results were only preliminary. She said the percentages, “change a little bit each year.” Swanger explained that a student could have moved into the district in time for testing, but received a majority of instruction in another district. It may be getting cheaper for Marysville residents to water their lawns. At Monday night’s meeting, Marysville City Council passed a first reading of legislation to create an outdoor watering credit for residents who do not have a second water meter to measure outdoor water use. Marysville bills residents for the water they consume. Additionally, in most cases, the city uses the consumption number and applies it to the residents’ sewer bill. The City of Marysville has issued its 2018 Water Quality Report and officials are urging anyone with questions to contact the water department. “We have been good for the 2018 year and there have been no problems with the water,” said Marysville Water Superintendent Scott Sheppeard. In an effort to make sure tap water is safe to drink, the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) sets regulations limiting the amount of certain contaminants in water provided by public water systems. A federal magistrate has terminated a lawsuit against the Marysville Exempted Village School District. Former Northwood Elementary School Principal Melissa Hackett had filed suit in federal court, claiming the district violated her right to due process in firing her. Last week Judge Edmund A. Saragus Jr., ruled that Hackett had not filed her suit within the two-year statute of limitations for personal injury actions allowed by the Ohio Revised Code.
