A drug investigation spanning several weeks has led to the indictment of several men allegedly involved in the trafficking of methamphetamines. The Union County Grand Jury has indicted Ryan Joseph Jones, Javory Dean Stookey, Jacob T. Miller and Daniel C. Smith. Marysville officials are evaluating first half of the year finances and already preparing for next year. “Things are going well,” said Marysville Finance Director Justin Nahvi. He explained that through the first half of the year, the city has seen about 55% of projected revenue. He said income tax, which accounts for the largest portion of the city revenue, is up over last year. In a split vote, Marysville City Council voted to approve an apartment complex on the land behind Meijer. In a 4-2 vote, council offered final approval for the rezoning of 18.76 acres behind Meijer on Coleman’s Crossing Boulevard. The property had been zoned Special District One but is now Planned Unit Development. The decision paves the way for the 264-unit Kenmore Place apartment complex. The complex is planned to have 11, three story apartment buildings and a single story clubhouse. There would be only one entrance to the complex, a long driveway between Meijer and the Crazy Burrito Mexican restaurant.…

The City of Marysville has received a $10,000 grant to host a water education day at Aldersgate Park. The Ohio Department of Natural Resources has given the grant to the city to promote outdoor activities. In a letter describing the grant, Lindsay Fetherolf, recreation, aquatic and event coordinator for the City of Marysville, said it “serves as a way to help communities facilitate events that will include an aquatic education learning experience.” Under the grant guidelines, the program must include an opportunity for participants to have a hands-on fishing experience. Marysville residents have seen someone looking through their recycling carts and the person has no intention of stopping, at least for a couple of weeks. Marysville Public Services Director Mike Andrako said the city has been selected to participate in an audit of its recycling program. He said that in the spring, the North Central Ohio Solid Waste District (NCOSWD) hired an intern to survey the city’s trash. Marysville is getting several new police officers and it has an agreement with the school district to thank. The Marysville finance committee recently approved the hiring of three new patrol officers for the division of police. At the meeting this week, Finance Director Justin Nahvi explained the city had recently entered into an agreement with Marysville Exempted Village School District. The school district will increase its financial commitment to the police department from about $38,000 per year to more than $200,000 per year. The Fairbanks community is grieving this morning following the death of a local boy. Lance Emberling, with the Union County Coroner’s Office, confirmed that an 11 year-old boy had died, the result of an apparently self-inflicted gunshot wound. The boy’s father called 911 at about 10:22 a.m. Wednesday. When first responders arrived at the scene in the 24000 block of Drake-Skidmore Road, they found the boy dead. Emberling said the boy was pronounced dead at the scene. Emberling said the boy’s body was sent to Montgomery County for an autopsy. Adham Schirg, Fairbanks superintendent, called the death an “unimaginable situation.”…

Prosecutors have added to the list of charges against a convicted sex offender. A Union County Grand Jury has indicted Charles Calvin York, 47, of 109 Papaya Drive, Marysville, charging him with nine counts of rape and eight counts of gross sexual imposition. Prosecutors said these charges are in addition to two counts of rape and four counts of gross sexual imposition he was indicted on in February. More than half the voters in Union County will be getting a new polling location and officials from the board of elections want them to know about it. Next week, the Union County Board of Elections will be sending post cards to more than 21,000 of the county’s 38,000 registered voters. A Mansfield truck driver allegedly responsible for two fatal crashes in six months has been indicted. The Union County Grand Jury has charged Doug A. Jones, 79, of Mansfield, with two counts of failure to stop after an accident and one count each of involuntary manslaughter, vehicular homicide and aggravated vehicular homicide. According to court documents, on Dec. 7, Jones was driving a 2004 Kenworth truck, hauling a 2014 Great Dane trailer, both owned by Estep Express Incorporated in Mansfield.
