At Monday night’s meeting of the Plain City Village Council, Mayor Darrin Lane offered his annual State of the Village address. “We look forward to a strong 2019 for our village,” Lane said. Lane began the speech noting the village added about 100 new homes in 2018, with construction costs of about $20 million. KELLER –––– A local man will spend half a decade behind bars for robbing a local pharmacy. Ian John Keller, 24, 115 Burnwell St., Woodstock, has been sentenced to five years in prison. Earlier this year, Keller pleaded guilty to one count each of robbery and having a weapon under disability. In exchange for the guilty plea, prosecutors agreed to dismiss one count each of attempted theft of drugs, possession of criminal tools and carrying a concealed weapon. Members of the Building Industry Association (BIA) of Central Ohio met recently with a variety of local officials to discuss the growing need for housing in the area. Jon Melchi, executive director of the BIA, presented a recently completed housing need assessment. Officials from the Union County Sheriff’s Office have called off the search for a group of suspected burglars in the southern portion of the county. Officials from Union County and the Ohio Environmental Protection Agency are at odds over a plan to have the City of Columbus provide water and sewer to Plain City. Fire crews from around the area responded to an incident at Honda’s Marysville Auto Plant. At 2:52 p.m., Wednesday, Honda officials called emergency responders. Honda spokesperson Stephanie Gostomski said there was fire in one of the plant’s rooftop air handlers. Allen Township Fire Chief Steve Brose called it “a small fire.” He said the incident was “quickly contained” without incident. He said the fire was “all contained in this one structure on the roof.” He said there no injuries. Gostomski said that the timing was fortunate. Plain City village council has agreed to move forward with a change in the employee pay schedule. At a work session Tuesday, the council directed Village Administrator Nathan Cahall to create a salary proposal that would bring village employees in line with other employees performing the same job in other communities. Last year, council hired the consulting firm of Clemans Nelson to conduct a study of the village salary and compensation schedule. The firm compared multiple surrounding and similar communities.
