Union County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to a one-vehicle crash that killed John D. McKinley, 55, of Columbus, Tuesday at 3:18 p.m. A release from the sheriff’s office states that McKinley drove off the right side of Route 736 and struck a tree. The Multi County Crash Investigation Team is investigating the crash. Fire trucks pull into the alley off East Fifth Street behind Stephen’s Lounge, which sustained exterior damage from a dumpster fire Saturday night. It was one of three dumpsters that caught fire that night. Authorities are investigating the incidents, which they believe are connected. Jessica Schulze, HOPE Center Director, said residents interested in donating to the organization may give canned goods, turkeys and “fixings” for holiday meal baskets, as well as toys. Deputies responded to a rollover injury crash at the intersection of Lunda Road and Route 347 Wednesday at 3 p.m. According to reports, a 1996 Honda Prelude struck a 1998 Honda Accord. The Accord then traveled off the road, into a ditch a came to a rest on its top. One victim was taken to Memorial Hospital. The driver of the Prelude, Clayton W. Smith, 39, of Marysville, was cited for failure to yield at a stop sign. The Union County Sheriff’s Office could not be reached for more information by press time. The annual event sees children paired with law enforcement officers to shop for friends and family.
