The 2021 Marysville High School and Marysville Early College High School Homecoming queens and kings will be crowned prior to Friday night’s game against Hilliard Darby. The Marysville Homecoming parade and pep rally planned for tonight have been moved to Thursday because of today’s heavy rain. The parade will start at 6 p.m. in the area of the First United Methodist Church and travel on Sixth Street to Main. It will head north on Main Street until turning onto Elwood Avenue and eventually end at the Union County Fairgrounds. The Plain City Public Library is currently hosting a “Community Helpers” storytime series. The most recent event featured the Pleasant Valley Fire District. Along with reading a couple stories, firefighters brought firetrucks and taught children what to do when there is a fire. They also showed off their personal gear and taught the youngsters not to be afraid of a firefighter who is suited up. The next event will feature Mayor Jody Carney at 10:30 a.m. Monday, Sept. 27. Fairbanks’ boys golf team won the Ohio Heritage Conference championship on Tuesday. The Panthers carded a score of 318 during the match that was held at Windy Knoll. Cole Eger and Chase Brackenridge both shot a 79 to lead FHS. Alex Crowe and Andrew Crowe both finished with an 80. The Panthers captured first place honors in the OHC North Division. Greenon, which won the South Division, finished as runner-up in Tuesday’s tournament. Elsie L. Bradley, 92, of Marysville died Sunday morning, Sept. 19, at Memorial Hospital in Marysville following many months of failing health. She was a longtime volunteer with the Hope Center Clothes Closet and enjoyed spending time with friends at the VFW. Her past time included working “Seek and Find” puzzles and reading. Martin “Craig” Opphile died unexpectedly early Sunday morning, Sept. 12, at Memorial Hospital. He was born March 6, 1955 in Marysville to the late Elmer Martin and Gretchen Fife Opphile. He married the former Linda L. Queen on Jan. 24, 1978 at the First Presbyterian Church. She preceded him in death Nov. 14, 2018 after 40 years of marriage.
