Earlier this week we published a story about the increase in land values Union County is experiencing. The increase in land values will trigger higher tax bills due in February and our story detailed options the tax payers have to appeal those new figures. One option that is offered by the Union County Auditor’s Office and is currently ongoing is an informal appeal of the tentative numbers. Sarah is the daughter of Philip and Amy LaPointe of Marysville. This year, she is president of National Honor Society and FCCLA. She is also an active member of Mock Trial, Science Club, and cheers on the varsity cheer squad. The Lady Panthers, who are ranked sixth in the state Division III poll, dropped a 4-1 verdict to West Liberty-Salem. The setback put FHS at 6-3-1 for the 2019 campaign. Lillian Dean tallied Fairbanks’ lone goal. Avery Groves finished with four saves for FHS. Brynne Stanley added one save.

The Lady Monarch tennis squad reached double figures in victories on Thursday. Marysville upped its record to 10-8 with a 3-2 triumph over Hilliard Darby. The final match of the night went three sets. The doubles team of Ellie Williams and Maddie Blaisdell defeated Zacatelio and Caple 4-6, 7-6, 6-0 to secure the team victory. Singles -Hanna Hogan (M) lost 4-6, 0-6 to Patel; -Krista O’Shelski (M) fell 0-6, 2-6 to Miney; -Caitlee Hill (M) beat Thip 6-0, 6-1. Triad’s girls golf team defeated Madison Plains, 223-263, on Thursday during a non-league scoring match at Woodland. The Lady Cardinals were led by match medalist Olivia Butz with a 48. She was followed by Anna Nott-53, Joni Russell-60 and Hannah McManaway-62.

Philip Duane Shetler, 77, of Irwin died Wednesday, Sept. 18, 2019 at his home, surrounded by loved ones. He was born April 17, 1942 in Kalona, Iowa to the late Jesse Ray and Anna (Hershberger) Shetler. He was a member of the Lighthouse Mennonite Fellowship of Unionville Center. He also worked as a treasurer for Rosedale Bible College for 10 years. He later retired after working for 28 years at Honeywell in Urbana. Myrtle B. Clark Conrad, 92, of Marysville died July 6, 2019. With her first husband, Russell Clark, she owned and operated Clark Trucking Company, which she continued operating after his death in 1975. She married Robert Conrad in 1980 and he preceded her in death in 2004. A Celebration of Life memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Trinity Lutheran Church with the Rev.
