When it comes to severe weather, related tragedies and other catastrophes, living in Marysville is a blessing. Other parts of the country don’t fare so well. Currently, Texas, Louisiana and Florida are reeling from two of the worst hurricanes, Harvey and Irma, to ever hit the U.S. Losses will be in the billions of dollars, and it will take months, if not years, to bring conditions back to normal. Fairbanks’ boys varsity golf team defeated West Liberty Salem on Thursday, 162-183, at Liberty Hills. Justin Brackenridge led the Panthers with a 39, followed by Seth Payne-40, Travis Brake-41, Cross Hackathorne-42, Logan Bocsy-43 and Aidan Wilson-45. The Triad junior high football team evened its record at 1-1 with a 28-14 home win over Greenon on Thursday afternoon. The Cardinals jumped out to a 14-0 lead midway through the first quarter, but Greenon refused to buckle, getting back into the game on a 65-yard touchdown pass. With the two-point conversion, the Knights drew to within six at 14-8. Triad scored again late in the second quarter to make it 20-8 at the half. With nine acres of corn planted and a new design, the Rausch family is bringing the “MAiZE craze” back to Ohio. The popular Milford Center labyrinth, that drew thousands of visitors last fall, will once again get curious maze-goers lost when it opens to the public on Saturday. Part of an increasingly popular “agritainment” trend, it will be joined this year by nearly 220 affiliated MAiZE sites across the United States, Canada and Europe. In the early season of the Pigskin Pickers, no true picker has risen to the top. Last week’s leader, Mac Cordell, is now sitting at the top of the preverbal picking tower with fellow picker Tim Miller at 21-7. Marysville’s seventh grade football team downed Upper Arlington Jones, 36-8, on Wednesday. The Monarchs were in control on a very muddy field from the opening play. Bunsold scored on its first two offensive series to take a 14-0 lead into the second quarter. The Monarchs (5-1 overall and 4-0 in league play) rolled to a 36-0 lead before Jones tallied its lone score near the end of the third period. The Monarch B team lost to Olentangy Berkshire, 20-12, earlier in the week.
