Marysville City Council is in the process of reviewing plans for the Marysville East Development on the city’s east side. The project will be developed in multiple phases. Council recently heard the first reading to annex and rezone the 351- acre Section One which will include single and multi-family housing, public common space and an innovation district. Marysville City Council has given final approval to an agreement to revise the city’s Tax Increment Financing (TIF) agreement with the school district. At its Monday meeting, council unanimously agreed to create a two-year window — from the start of 2024 to the end of 2025 — for the school district to pass a property tax increase and receive 100% of the increase on residential properties, even those already in a Tax Increment Financing (TIF) district. Marysville City Council has rejected a plan to extend a local Tax Increment Finance agreement through 2067. City council recently voted down legislation that would have extended the Tax Increment Finance (TIF) agreement for the City Gate/Coleman’s Crossing areas. In a 4-2 vote, only council members Deb Groat and Mark Reams voted to extend the TIF. Council member Aaron Carpenter was excused. The area already has a 30-year TIF agreement that will expire in 2037. The legislation would have extended the TIF another 30 years after the original agreement expires. The final results are in and Steven Wolfe has been elected as the next Marysville City Council member for Ward 1. “It is nice to have it officially official and to be ready to move forward,” Wolfe said Friday. Following a recount Thursday, the Union County Board of Elections has confirmed that Wolfe, a write-in candidate, earned 1,018 votes, 48.8% of the vote while incumbent council member Aaron J. A Marysville homeless woman has been charged with allegedly stealing from a local business. A Union County grand jury has indicted Heather Nicole Carpenter, 43, who is listed as living on the streets of Marysville, charged with one count of burglary, criminal trespass and misdemeanor theft. According to court documents, at about 7:21 p.m., Nov. 10, Carpenter was in the local Meijer store. Because of a previous incident, Carpenter was not allowed to be in the store. Carolyn Bean lives both in Mill Valley and next door to a small herd of horses. Bean said a neighbor recently built a small barn and brought three miniature horses into their backyard. “We were not able to enjoy our backyard this year in the summertime because of the odor from these animals. A pair of Marysville men could be facing prison time after allegedly attacking a local man. Dion Joseph Kantner, 27, of 114 S. Walnut St. and William V. Baldwin, 23, of 636 W. Third St. Kantner is charged with one count of felonious assault. Both Baldwin and Kantner are each charged with one count of felonious assault stemming from an incident. Nieca Nowels, director of the Marysville Public Library, said she has heard people stress that strong libraries make strong communities. She said she believes it and hopes others do too. Nowels said the library will likely be on the March 2024 primary ballot asking voters to replace a five-year, 1.5 mill property tax levy that will be collected through the end of 2024. The Marysville Public Library is currently funded by a 1.5 mill levy. A race for Marysville City Council will go to an automatic recount. At Monday’s meeting of the Union County Board of Elections, it was announced that the race for the Ward 1 seat on city council will go to a recount. As it stands after the official vote, write-in candidate Steven Wolfe has 1,018 votes, 48.8% of the vote, and incumbent council member Aaron J. Carpenter has 1,009 votes, 48.4%. Under Ohio election law, any election closer than half of a percentage point goes to an automatic recount. Before Monday’s meeting, Wolfe had 1,013 write-in votes. Carpenter received 998 votes.…
