Inmates at the Ohio Reformatory for Women view one of the paintings brought to the prison Wednesday as part of the Eyes of Freedom Memorial. The program is a traveling memorial, bringing several paintings around the country depicting members of Lima Company who died during Operation Iraqi Freedom. The Union County Shrine Club is set to host its annual pancake breakfast Saturday from 7-11 a.m. at the Elks Lodge. Pancakes, sausage and beverages will be served. Carryout will be available. Proceeds from the events will help members with programs that will support disabled children and burn units at Shriner’s Hospital. Pictured above, the Fairbanks High School Marching Band performs in Milford Center’s Bicentennial Parade Saturday afternoon. Shown at below is the Union County Bicentennial Bell on display after the parade. The bell was cast when Ohio celebrated its 200th birthday, and was used Saturday as part of an events to celebrate Milford Center’s 200th birthday. Those attractions included local vendors selling their wares and live music. A large area was devoted to corn hole tournament, while barbecue was served throughout the day. Work continues on a paving project at the parking lot shared by the Marysville High School Football Stadium and Early College High School. Shown above, workers from Staffco Construction of Dayton work this morning to bury drainage tiles under the parking lot.  The work has resulted in school officials using the Marysville High School lot and Union County Fairgrounds for parking during high school football games. Marysville Police responded to an injury crash on London Avenue that sent one woman to the hospital Wednesday at about 10:53 a.m. A green Honda driven by Carl Siegle, 64, of Marysville, was traveling east on West Ninth Street and entered the intersection of Ninth Street and London Avenue. Siegle struck a southbound silver Acura, driven by Maria Dematteo, 53, of Marysville, causing the Acura to flip over. Dematteo was transported to Memorial Hospital by Marysville Fire and EMS while Siegle reported no injuries. The crash is still under investigation. (Journal-Tribune photo by Will Channell)
