Reporter Mac Cordell got lucky and won seven of last week’s nine games, while publisher Kevin Behrens did the customer golf thing and slipped to 5-4. North Union High School is the polling place for registered voters living in the Village of Richwood and Claibourne, Jackson, Leesburg, Washington and York townships. This year, high school administration worked with the Union County Board of Elections to relocate the polls to the fieldhouse behind the high school. This will allow students to remain in school on Nov. 2. Polls will be open from 6:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. on election day.

Gus “Squashcarver” Smithhisler, a nationally recognized professional carver, was at the recent Plain City Fall Festival to carve a giant pumpkin for the village. Smithhisler chose “Handsome Harold” the rooster as the subject of his masterpiece. The rogue rooster was first spotted in Pastime Park this summer and was tracked and photographed by village residents. Robert E. and Luella L. (Kramer) Conklin are celebrating their 70th wedding anniversary. The couple was married on Oct. 27, 1951 in Ostrander. After he served three years in the U.S. Air Force, the couple started Conklin Dairy Farms. They have two children, Cheryl (Dr. John) Dimar and Gary (Nancy) Conklin. They have five grandchildren, Halle (Chris Ternovan) Dimar, Alecia (Dr. Matt) Berry, Kelsey (Will Weible) Dimar, Ryan (Anna) Conklin and Allison Conklin.
