For at least the next three years, the Ohio High School Athletic Association (OHSAA) state championship football games will have a new home. The OHSAA and the Pro Football Hall of Fame announced Wednesday afternoon the state championship games for Divisions I-VII will be played at the Tom Benson Hall of Fame Stadium in Canton. The facility, which is located next to the pro football shrine, is also the home of the NFL’s Hall of Fame game each August. For the second consecutive summer, there will be no Union County Junior Golf Academy-Tour (UCJGAT) season. The program, which was started in 2001, did not hold a 2020 campaign due to the coronavirus pandemic. This year, state COVID-19 restrictions were lifted on June 2. “That was too late to conduct a 2021 season and do it right,” said Larry Morris, one of the program’s co-founders. Morris, who formerly served as head boys golf coach at Fairbanks High School, founded the program 20 years ago with local pro Greg Rutherford. A Jonathan Alder High School swimmer fell short of a huge goal this past weekend. Pioneer swimmer Eli Stoll competed in the first wave of the United States Summer Olympic Trials. The Trials were held in Omaha, Neb. Stoll, 17, competed in the 100-meter backstroke. He qualified to participate in the Olympic Trials after his effort of 55.89 during a solo time trial. Stoll had barely fallen short of the Trials qualifying standard of 56.69 during several earlier try-outs. A pair of locations will be used for the upcoming Marysville Mitts baseball tournament.
