Marysville’s boys track and field team earned places during the opening day of the Division I district meet. Competition was held on Tuesday at Hilliard Darby High School. Cameron Jones won the long jump with an effort of 21-7.25. He will now advance to next week’s regional competition. The top four in each event qualified for the regional. The road victory came for the 31st-seeded Monarchs over the No. 20 Warriors during the Division I sectional semifinals. Christian picked up the victory by pitching 6 2/3 innings. Brennan Prochaska competed well during Sunday’s national youth gymnastics tournament in Daytona Beach, Fla. The 11-year-old finished 23rd in the nation out of 112 Level 8 gymnasts (12-year-old bracket). Prochaska medaled in the vault and finished in the top eight in the nation with a personal-best score of 11.45. He also had a personal best on pommel horse with a score of 11.55. Prohaska, a sixth-grade student at Creekeview Intermediate School, finished with his best all-around score of 68.85 and scored more than 11 on all events. That was his first time for that accomplishment.

Larry Fox has filled a number of roles within the Marysville High School athletic program. From head coach to keeping track of the football team’s equipment, he’s done quite a bit for MHS athletes. Now, he’s been rewarded for his efforts. After playing several sports as an MHS athlete back in the 1950s, “Foxey,” as he is called, has maintained a steady presence in Monarch sports and the basketball court. Marysville High School officials have narrowed the candidates to three for the position of head boys basketball coach. The position became open a few weeks ago when Ryan Gross stepped down after 11 seasons. The finalists are Bill Romine, who is currently an assistant coach with the Thomas Worthington boys team; Mark Tinklenberg, who is an assistant boys coach at Dublin Coffman; and Jeremy Duerr, who is the boys head coach at New Lexington High School.
