The Union County Fairgrounds is under construction. The beef barn was demolished last week and a new barn will be constructed on the site. While the official groundbreaking is not set until later today, the site has already been prepped, holes have been dug and crews are getting supplies and equipment into place to begin construction quickly. James E. “Jim” Ballard, 86, of Marysville died quietly at his home Friday morning, April 16, following a prolonged illness. He was a 1953 graduate of Marysville High School and joined the U.S. Army the following year. He was stationed in Germany for two years after the Korean war. He also attended Bliss College, studying to become a CPA. He married the former Verna B. Andrews on Sept. 7, 1954 and they renewed their vows on Jan. 3, 1996. According to Marysville Police Department reports: Police responded to a report of a mental health issue in the 400 block of Triple Crown Way at 12:26 a.m. Friday. Police responded to a report of drug abuse (marijuana) in the 800 block of Delaware Avenue at 4:21 a.m. Friday. A reporting person advised MPD a suspicious vehicle was at Taco Bell. MPD located the vehicle and identified four individuals inside the car. Sandy Ward married David Woodworth on April 17, 1971 at Central College Presbyterian Church in Westerville. After 34 years of service, he retired from Nestle R&D-Marysville in 2003 as Procurement Manager. She was employed at Fairbanks Local Schools and Marysville Public Library at Raymond. They were both long-time members of the First Presbyterian Church in Marysville. After retirement, the pair enjoyed spending time with family and traveling around the U.S. and Canada.
