It was a different kind of graduation ceremony Saturday as more than 400 Marysville seniors capped off their high school careers. The event held at the Marysville High School football stadium saw graduates and their families line up in vehicles to await their turn to be honored. Graduates and their family and friends, all in one vehicle, were to arrive at the facility at a predetermined time. The Jonathan Alder Class of 2020 graduated Sunday. The district hosted a diploma pick-up at the high school stadium. A virtual commencement ceremony was posted online. The class flower is a red rose. The class celebrated its motto — Behind us are memories, beside us are friends. Before us are dreams that will never end. Linda L. Thompson, 70, of Marysville died Saturday morning May 23, 2020 at Riverside Methodist Hospital from complications of COVID-19. She was born Aug. 31, 1949 in Columbus. She was a 1967 graduate of Marysville High School. She was a loving mother and grandmother that enjoyed doting on her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. According to Marysville Police Department reports: Patricia N. Cogossi, 39, of Monteclair Court was cited for a dog or animal at large in the 1200 block of Monteclair Court at 3:14 p.m. Friday. Reports indicate the citation stemmed from an incident in which the reporting person advised he was walking his dog when a neighbor’s dog escaped the yard and attacked him and his dog. In light of the current health situation, the Marysville Memorial Day Committee will conduct a private ceremony to honor the deceased servicemen and servicewomen from Union County. Bo Johnstone, Chairman of the Memorial Day Committee, said the group is not publicizing the time of the event in an attempt to keep the public from attending. He said the committee is working to make the ceremony available for viewing online, but further information is not available at the time. The Bunsold After School Enrichment (BASE) Program, funded by the ODE 21st Century Learning Center Grant, has 12 3-D printers that students are using to create masks which are being offered to local citizens for free. The masks, designed by Rowan University, are comprised of a plastic frame with a filter system that uses ordinary, replaceable shop towels. A mask prototype was submitted to the Union County Health Department and the design was approved for distribution.
