Marysville track and field athletes came through with several placements during the opening day of the Ohio Capital Conference Cardinal Division meet. All of the places for MHS came during field events. Earning runner-up finishes were Carys Gossett in the girls discus (122-5), Jackie Rychlik in the girls pole vault (11-0) and Andrew Bentz and Cam Jones respectively in the boys shot put (47-0) and long jump (22-3). The Panthers of Fairbanks dropped a 9-5 baseball verdict to Northeastern. FHS took a 2-0 lead in the visitors’ portion of the first inning. Northeastern plated four runs over the initial two frames and never trailed the rest of the way. FHS tallied 11 hits, but committed three fielding miscues. Brice Phelps went three-for-four at the plate and drove in a couple of runs. Noah Rausch was three-for-four with an RBI. Blumenschein pitched five innings. He yielded six hits and walked five. Marysville’s boys tennis season came to an end during the Division I sectional tournament. “Most of my guys lost in the first round.” said Monarch head coach Brian Ash. Jonathan Alder’s softball squad raised its record to 19-1 with a 13-2 run-rule verdict over Hilliard Bradley. JA assured the victory by plating 10 runs in the bottom of the first inning.
